On February 17-19 The National Karate-Do (WKF) Team of the Republic of Moldova takes part in the 44th edition of the European Championship on Karate WKF among Cadets, Juniors and sportsmen U21 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The delegation of our Federation, conducted by the President – Oleg ABALIN, two coaches – Denis MOROZOV and Vladimir MOISEEV and a European-level Judge – Ana-Maria STRATU is the most numerous at this event. It consists of 14 sportsmen.
During the first day of the competition our sportsmen took part in the following categories: Kata individual for Cadets and Juniors and Kumite individual for Cadets.
Thus, the most striking result of the first day of the competition was the first for the last 8 years GOLD medal in the category of individual Kumite for female cadets (-46 kg). The owner of such a significant award for the Republic of Moldova became Polina GURENCO. Due to this winning, Polina became a candidate for a quota for taking part in the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018.
With the help of her coach Denis MOROZOV at the very beginning during an uneasy bout against the representative from France, Polina won it with the score 4:1. The second bout against the sportsman from Kosovo also ended with an absolute victory of Polina with the score 6:0.
As expected, the quarterfinals and semifinals of this category were strained enough. So, the semifinal with a sportsman from Spain - GARCIA MOYA Nidia ends with a draw, but with a privilege for Polina. Final bout for the representative of the Republic of Moldova was one of the easiest, ending with the score 6:1 in her favor.
Also, during the same day of competition other athletes of the NKF RM (WKF) took part in their categories, but unfortunately, they have failed to perform so triumphantly.
